Aussies re-write History

07jan06 Ricky Ponting confirmed himself as one of cricket's great batsmen yesterday as Australia rewrote the history books to beat South Africa in the third Test. The Australian captain scored an unprecedented second hundred in his 100th Test to guide his team to a comfortable victory over the Proteas at the SCG, claiming a 2-0 series win. After South African captain Graeme Smith boldly declared in the morning, Australia raced to a fourth innings record total of 287 with 15 overs to spare. The quality of the run chase was magnified by the fact no side had scored more than 276 to win batting last in Sydney for 108 years. A crying shame that this was not the case in the old enemys camp last year but thems the breaks; for those not in the know the old enemy is England. What a team simply magnifique. And good old Rick scored a double ton; I like that. A couple of things sort of marred the game like GLENN McGrath was officially reprimanded for obscene language last night as Australia's frustrations boiled over in the rain-marred third Test and Young Brett Lee was reprimanded for dissent; but thats the game for you.
